Mark, Tom , and Travis Updates

11:31 PM / Comments (0) / by nemSEANati

All three members of Blink-182 are quite busy. It's pretty amazing that they're able to fit in time for the reunion.

Let's start with Mark. A few days ago we let you know that he might be producing Motion City Soundtracks new album. Well Mark let us know earlier via his Twitter account that "it's a go!" He's also gonna collaborate/produce a track or two on Panic! At The Disco's upcoming album.

Now Tom's turn. He let us know via Angels & Airwaves ModLife page that AVA's next album and movie will be released by the end of this year/beginning of next year.
Angels and Airwaves is pleased to announce that the record is coming along stronger and more amazing than planned......the movie and album will launch together towards the end of/ beginning of the year.....and may we say....it is going to blow away our previous work....prepare....clue: "compass / ruler"

And finally, Travis. On March 20th he went back to the hospital for surgery and he's already got his hands full. We all know Travis did a few collaborations with rappers, well he's doing another one. This time with Busta Rhymes. The song will be for the Transformers 2 Soundtrack.

There you go. Now you're up to date.

Handsome Furs - Face Control

6:36 PM / Comments (0) / by steve-n

Release Date: March 10th 2009

The sophomore album of Montreal based duo Handsome Furs, does not fall short of it's predecessor. In fact, Face Control overpowers their debut album Plague Park to a great extent, without putting any shame on it however. This time around, the Furs are louder and more aggressive. Face Control is mainly made up of distorted guitar, and a drum machine that runs through the tracks. Unlike Plague Park, the urge to move is compulsory, especially on the album's first single I'm Confused, and All We Want, Baby, Is Everything. The album does have a political side, which rationalizes the main idea of the album. On the band's trip to Russia, they were alarmed by the idea of face control. This happens when a person is refused service, based on their appearance. In Talking Hotel Arbat Blues, Dan sings "there was a guy who came in from the cold, but he's never going to get passed face control". This does not necessarily suggest he was face controlled, but the practice in Russia is a strong one, and there is no pitty felt for those who undergo it. Like most great albums, Face Control closes with a bang. It is hard to say whether Radio Kaliningrad, the album's most exhilarating song, puts the icing on the cake, or serves as a piece of the cake itself. Although Face Control may be an independant release that had very little publicity, it is filled with potential to be one of the most influential albums for artists to come.

2009 Will Be Bananaz For Gorillaz

5:31 PM / Comments (0) / by steve-n

Just a while ago the duo behind the Gorillaz, Damon Albarn & Jamie Hewlett, stated that the band would no longer release material of any sort. Seems like the opposite is in store for them in 2009. Not only did Albarn announce a new album in the works, but he teased fans by airing a few demos of songs called Electric Shock, Broken and Stylo, on BBC Radio 1. As if that wasn't enough to make a comeback, the duo are set to release a film. Bananaz, a film documenting the duo's works and live performances is set to premiere April 20th, via their website. Following the online premiere, the film will hit selected theatres and then be released on DVD. The film is directed by Ceri Levy.

Chin Up Chin Up have decided to call it quits. The Chicago indie rockers will play their last show on May 15 at the Empty Bottle in Chicago. Frontman Jeremy Bolen let us know via the band's MySpace that it was time to end.
So I am writing this to announce that chin up chin up will be playing our final show, at the empty bottle in chicago on may 15th. I think I can speak for all of us when I say that we really had intentions to keep making music together for an infinite amount of time, but just as this band began in a natural way it is naturally coming to an end. Thank you to the hundreds of people who have helped us along the way, we have been truly lucky, and as cliché as it may sound, we could not have done any of this without you. Much love- Jeremy
Bolen, who started Chin Up Chin Up in 2001 with Nathan Snydacker, has a new band with former members Greg Sharp and Bobby Burg which is called Vacations. They will release their first album I Was Bikini / But Ran Afraid on April 7th.

10:40 AM / Comments (0) / by nemSEANati

Punk legend Iggy Pop has announced a release date for his "jazz" album Préliminaires, May 18. The record was influenced by, French novelist, Michel Houllebecq's book The Possibility Of An Island. "(The book) is about death, sex, the end of the human race, and some other pretty funny stuff. I read the book with intense pleasure when it came out, and in my mind, I created music that would have been the music that I would hear in my soul when I read this book," said the singer. "At one point I just got sick of listening to idiot thugs with guitars banging out crappy music and I’ve started listening to a lot of New Orleans-era, Louis Armstrong, Jelly Roll Morton-type of jazz. And I’ve always loved quieter ballads as well."

New Bob Dylan Album Information Released

12:31 PM / Comments (0) / by nemSEANati

We previously let you know that Bob Dylan was releasing a new album, but we had no title and no release date to confirm. Today he announced that the new album will be called Together Through Life and will be released on April 27th.

In an interview with Bill Flanagan, Dylan talks about the new album.
A lot of this album feels like a Chess record from the fifties. Did you have that sound in your head going in or did it come up as you played?
Well some of the things do have that feel. It’s mostly in the way the instruments were played.

You like that sound?
Oh yeah, very much so. . . the old Chess records, the Sun records. . . I think that’s my favorite sound for a record.

What do you like about that sound?
I like the mood of those records - the intensity. The sound is uncluttered. There’s power and suspense. The whole vibration feels like it could be coming from inside your mind. It’s alive. It’s right there. Kind of sticks in your head like a toothache.

A .pdf of the interview can be downloaded here.

Modest Mouse & Heath Ledger Collaboration Video

4:49 PM / Comments (0) / by nemSEANati

Modest Mouse and the late Heath Ledger worked together before the actor's death in January 2008 on a music video for the band's song King Rat, a bonus song off of 2007's We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank. The band plan on releasing the video, but no date has been set for release yet. It is expected to drop soon though.

Frontman Isaac Brock told VH1 in an interview in 2007 about working with Ledger.
We started working on some lower budget videos for seven or eight other songs. Heath Ledger’s been wanting to do a video for one of the songs that didn’t make it on the record, "King Rat." Terry Gilliam is going to help animate it. Heath and I have a mutual friend and when we were in Australia, my fiancé and some of us in the band went out on a boat with him and his family and friends and talked about the idea. He’s got a video production company and was interested in working on something. We were talking back and forth for a while. The idea seemed sort of dropped, but then he just sent me an email saying that he wanted to do it. And I love me some Terry Gilliam. I hope it works out and I don’t sound like a f*cking liar at the end of this.

The Klaxons band members are heading back to the studio to record new songs for the follow-up of 2007's Myths Of The Near Future. Singer Jamie Reynolds told NME that the reason why they had to go back to re-record part of the album was because they changed their music style. "Because we've made a really dense, psychedelic record. We've made a really heavy record and it isn't the right thing for us, I understand and know that. First and foremost we're a pop band. I haven't thought about that for a long time, and now it's in the forefront of my mind." The band have four weeks to finish up and at the end of those four weeks, everything should be dealt with.

Chris Cornell Responds To Trent Reznor

A lot of online battles have been happening lately on Twitter. The latest, well we wouldn't really call it a battle, more like friendly advice, is between Trent Reznor and former Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell. The update, which Reznor wrote two days ago, says:
You know that feeling you get when somebody embarrasses themselves so badly YOU feel uncomfortable? Heard Chris Cornell's record? Jesus.
The Nine Inch Nails frontman is referring to Cornell's latest album Scream which is produced by Timbaland.

He has been in prison since 1993 and he has finally been given permission to be released. In September 2008 his fourth application for parole was denied, but a couple of weeks ago it was accepted. "I will have to report [to the parole officer] for one year — initially every two weeks, and then once a month," Vikernes told the Dagbladet newspaper.

James Hetfield Hospitalized

9:14 PM / Comments (0) / by nemSEANati

James Hetfield has been hospitalized in Sweden yesterday (Sunday, March 8) due to a stomach bug and suffered dehydration. Because Hetfield was taken to the hospital Metallica postponed their concert which they were supposed to play at the Globe Arena in Stockholm. Fans didn't find out until minutes before the show was scheduled to start. Drummer Lars Ulrich told the crowd that the band were "truly, truly, truly sorry." Luckily, James was in good enough shape to leave the hospital that evening and is now back in the United States with the rest of the band. On the same night a message was posted on their website saying, "Tonight's second show in Stockholm has been canceled due to James falling ill and receiving medical attention at the hospital. The show WILL be rescheduled sometime this spring, so keep watching this space for more details. We apologize to all our fans who have traveled from near and far and we look forward to coming back soon."

In other Metallica news, Ulrich downloaded his band's latest album Death Magnetic illegally. If you don't remember, Lars filed a lawsuit against file-sharing site Napster in 2000. He told VH1 in an interview that he downloaded it a few days after it leaked online, just to try it.
I sat there myself and downloaded Death Magnetic from the internet just to try it. I was like, 'Wow, this is how it works.' I figured if there is anybody that has a right to download Death Magnetic for free, it's me.

Interpol Gives Us An Upate

9:04 PM / Comments (0) / by nemSEANati

Interpol has updated their website with a note letting us know what they're up to at the moment.
Cherished Interpudlians,

It's been a long time. We shouldn't have left you...

After the touring for OLTA came to an end, we all dispersed to tend to our individual personal lives.
...And to get our ducks in a row.

Now the band has reconvened, and we are rehearsing new songs.

We find ourselves marveling at the tremendous focus
that has defined our early rehearsals for this, our 4th effort.

All kidding aside, we feel like a new band.

Once again, we have no concept to this batch of song-writing.
(We are often asked about our intentions when we set out to write music.)
There is rarely any intention to this process.
We just make the music.

And without going into too much detail, the songs sound vital.

It's as though we've hit upon a balance between our urgency and
our calm. And true to our better work, this is music that unravels over time.

We anticipate that, once it's done, you high-minded folks will welcome the music...
into your bedrooms...to swagger and breathe...

It's still early, yet, though. We will keep you posted.

In the meantime, a couple of us have kept ourselves busy with extra-curricular activities. Carlos has made a film called My Friends Told Me About You and Sam has released a record with his band Magnetic Morning.

And we hope that you're all weathering well the turmoil of the age.

Lovingly,

Interpol

Relapse Release Date Is Set

9:43 PM / Comments (0) / by nemSEANati

We previously let you know that Eminem's sixth studio album, Relapse, would be released in early 2009, but today the actual date was said. The album will be out on May 19th, and there is better news for all you hardcore Slim Shady fans. It is expected that by the end of 2009 Relapse 2 will be released.
A lot of people were expecting Relapse to drop last year, I was one of them. Then Dre and I went back in the studio in September for a few days, and that turned into six months. We were on such a roll; we wound up with a ton of new music produced by Dre. Putting out Relapse 2 will let everyone get all of the best stuff.

A single and video should be out on April 7th.

Grizzly Bear Blog About Leak + Tour Dates

10:20 PM / Comments (0) / by nemSEANati

Brooklyn-based indie rock band Grizzly Bear blogged about their upcoming album, Veckatimest, being leaked three months before its official release date.
Hey all,

So yeah, we are kind of bummed this leaked so early. We know it's not the 90's anymore and times have changed, and we're super grateful for all the support people have shown us on the blogs and internet, but we were kind of hoping it wouldn't happen this soon.

Ultimately we feel like we put out a great album and hope people enjoy it, and we really hope people take the time to pre-order and support the good one-and-a-half years it took to write and record it.

I promise you the album art for both CD and vinyl is going to be gorgeous. And a bonus: all vinyl people will get a high quality download coupon with their purchase.

Leaking is a tricky subject; as we all know, I've had my run ins with the law O__o (Hi, Mr. Sheriff!) I have conflicting opinions about it, as it's really complicated, but ultimately it saddens me that a bummer-quality version of Veckatimest is going around. Please consider putting your energies into a pre-order or into waiting till May 26 for the album the way we intend it to be presented.

Not to get all mushy, but we definitely put a lot of love and work into this one and are just excited to hit the road and tour it again.

Ok, there! Got that off my chest.
Warm regards.

Added to their post are links to pre-order the album in vinyl or cd format.

2/3 Of Sublime Are Back

10:32 PM / Comments (0) / by nemSEANati

Ever since the rumors of Sublime reuniting with a new singer/guitarist, fans have been waiting to hear more details. Well on Saturday Sublime drummer Bud Gaugh played a gig at Cantina Los Tres Hombres in Sparks, Nevada with his band named Del Mar. Once they were finished playing their set, Bud then took the stage again but this time with Sublime bassist Eric Wilson and a singer by the name of Rome. They proceeded by playing Sublime songs (see set list here) and it's also said that they played one new song. A three minute video can be seen here.

Does this mean that the Ska/Punk band is back? Well according to a blog written on Del Mar's MySpace, yes.
Del Mar & Sublime
So Del Mar played the gig at Cantina last night in Reno, it was packed and amazing. What really fucking killed it was SUBLIME reuniting and playing with new singer, Rome. We're fucking stoked for Bud, Eric, and Rome- Bud's still playing with Del Mar, and Sublime doesn't have any firm tour plans or anything YET, but we'll keep you posted on their progress. By the way, Del Mar's record release party for After the Quake, our debut album's set for May 2nd at Vixen in Sparks. We got Bert Susanka and the Astronaut Love Trianglr, Sexrat, Livitz Livitz, and possibly Keyser Soze on board. We'll see you there. Peace!
